Mark Thorley began his career in the Music Industry working as a session co-ordinator for an independant record label and recording studio, working with clients from the major labels and unsigned acts. He then went on to run his own music production company, producing for most radio broadcasters in the UK, television and other media. There then followed a move into Multimedia production, with particular emphasis on music and audio content. Next came a couple of years as a technical consultant working for a number of media and audio companies. He then moved into academia, where he was part of the team which ran one of the first Music Technology degrees in the UK. Since 2005, he has been Principal Lecturer and Programme Manager of the Music and Creative Technologies Department at Coventry University.
