Encoding & Transcoding 2019: ATEME
Following up on our "Encoding & Transcoding 2018" series, we're going to be looking at a few of the companies we missed last year, and later in 2019, we'll update with what's new from some of the companies we covered the first time around. In this installment, we look at ATEME.
ATEME is a leading European transcoding company, founded in 1991, with headquarters in Vélizy-Paris, R&D centers in Rennes, Denver, Sao-Paulo and Singapore, and local sales offices in 14 countries. The company is supported by 200 employees, including 100 video compression engineers
ATEME operates in more than 60 countries and counts among its customers global broadcast and OTT companies, including EBU, Proximus, Telefonica, NBC Sports, Encompass, Arkena, Globo, Sky, Orange, TV Azteca, RTL Group, TotalPlay, FOX Sports, AMC Networks, CRA, France Télévisions, FPT Telecom, Esporte Interativo and Globecast.
ATEME’s codec engineers continue to advance the implementation of H.264, HEVC, AV1, and MPEG-2. In the contribution space, ATEME initially deployed FPGA-only, but now offers a mix of FPGA and CPU-based solutions. ATEME boasts ultra-low latency and high video quality in its contribution applications.
On the distribution side, ATEME offers both live and VOD applications through a software-only solution that can reside on any CPU-based appliance, either provided by ATEME or by the customer.
ATEME’s TITAN Live is a high-quality, high-density virtualized software compression solution, designed for cable, DTH, and OTT Live delivery of SD, HD, and Ultra HD content. TITAN Live supports both live events and linear channels, and is a hardware agnostic, virtualized software based solution that runs on any host: Linux, virtual machines and microservices.
ATEME’s TITAN File is a multi-codec/format video transcoding software, for mezzanine, STB and ABR VOD, post-production, playout, and archive applications. TITAN File enables integration with conditional access, digital rights management, digital ad insertion, and forensic watermarking. Both TITAN Live and Titan File are based on ATEME’s STREAM compression engine and deliver high video quality at minimum bitrates with accelerated parallel processing.
