Hat Trick
Streaming Media Europe keeps growing, both in terms of attendees-last year's event had twice as many delegates as 2007's, and a third more than 2008's-and now also in terms of what it has to offer. In addition to a full day of in-depth workshops and 2 days of Streaming Media Europe proper, the event at the Novotel London West in October will also feature two new satellite conferences, the Content Delivery Summit and Online Video Strategies. Read on for more information about all of them, and find all the details at www.streamingmediaglobal.com/conference/2010.
Preconference Workshops
As we did last year, we've got five 3-hour workshops on 13 October, the day before the full Streaming Media Europe conference kicks off. In addition to our annual workshops focusing on video delivery solutions from Microsoft (Creating End-to-End Smooth Streaming Video Solutions with Silverlight and IIS Media Services) and Adobe (Flexible Media Delivery on the Adobe Flash Platform) and Jan Ozer's wildly popular Encoding H.264 Video for Streaming and Progressive Download workshop-which drew a standing-room-only crowd last year-we've got two new workshops on the schedule this year.
Michal Tsur and Zohar Babin, both from Kaltura, Inc.-the online video platform that's been at the forefront of the Open Video Alliance and HTML5.org-will offer a deep dive into HTML5 and Web Video Standards. They'll examine the HTML5 video standard, solutions that support it, and even dig into the code of a few HTML5 video deployments including the Wikipedia live video beta. They'll also address the benefits and challenges of working with the up-and-coming standard and help differentiate between the reality and the hype regarding various video standards on the market today.
Anthony Klejna and Jose Castillo, both of whom are Streaming Media conference veterans (in Europe and the U.S.) will take a 3-hour tour of Mobile Video: Creation and Delivery, examining the available technologies and services that deliver video both to and from mobile devices, exploring IIS7, Expression Encoder, Silverlight, QuickTime, and HTML5. Special attention will be paid to the iPad, iPhone, and Android devices, and there will even be handsets and devices on hand for participants to experiment with.
Content Delivery Summit
Industry veteran Dom Robinson has been asked to programme the Content Delivery Summit event that will take place on 13 October. Realising that this specialist sector within Europe needed its own focus and forum-and also noting the small number of players that would be well-known already by most of the significant publishers-Robinson has structured the day in a way that departs from the run-of-the-mill "soapbox/vanity fair" events in which the participants try to typically outbid each other for the attentions of new potential clients. There are plenty of forums for that type of event.
For this industry space, Robinson is trying to foster a series of open, topical discussions between key peers at each layer of the sector, looking outwardly at their market demands and trying to provide insight and advice to the stakeholders about trends and directions available as options.
