New and existing Canal+ customers will soon be able to choose between the company's standard set-top box or an Apple TV 4K. Customers choosing the Apple TV will rent it for €6 per month.

The move is intended to attract younger customers, said deputing managing director Frank Cadoret in an interview with Numerama. The offer begins on May 17. Going with an Apple TV also allows households to easily connect a second box.

Streaming subscriptions start at €19.99.

“We are proud to offer Apple TV 4K and our unique selection of programming to our millions of subscribers in France," Cadoret said. "The Canal offerings reach close to one French household in five and with MyCanal we are making available to everyone features that will captivate a great number of users. Apple TV represents the perfect showcase for our premium exclusive content, in particular the cinema, sport, and our original creations.”

Canal+ announced a live sports option that lets fans view multiple live streams on one screen. Viewers can also opt to have live stats overlaid on the screen.

Canal+ has 5.2 million subscribers and is a subsidiary of Vivendi. In the U.S., DirecTV customers can get a free Apple TV 4K if they prepay for three months of DirecTV Now service.
