Dailymotion Adds LG, Samsung Apps; Improves Lean-Back Experience
Video-sharing site Dailymotion is moving further into the living room by unveiling apps for LG and Samsung connected TVs. The site is also updating its TV app experience to provide a better lean-back experience. All of its TV apps can now pull content from the viewer's Dailymotion profile to deliver a continuous viewing experience. By improving the interface, Dailymotion lets viewers lean back on the couch and enjoy videos that match their interests, rather than having to select a new video every two or three minutes. As part of the revamping, Dailymotion is updating existing apps for the Orange, TiVo for One, Roku, and other IPTV platforms.
Revamped apps will offer improved interfaces, more intuitive navigation, and search functionality that now includes auto-complete and a search history. Viewers will be able to access their video playlists, subscriptions, and personal videos through the apps. They'll also be able to bookmark favorite videos.
Viewers using the Samsung connected TV app can see Dailymotion's featured videos, which suggests content geo-targeted by country and region.
Last month, French IPTV provider Orange took full control of Dailymotion by spending €61 million ($80.6 million U.S.) for the remaining 51 percent stake. It paid $78 million for 49 percent of the company in 2011.
