Viaplay Chooses thePlatform to Provide Backend Video Services
Scandinavian online TV service Viaplay has selected white label video publishing company thePlatform to provide backend video management. Streams for Viaplay customers watching on computers, smartphones, tablets, connected TVs, gaming consoles, or the company's set-top boxes will be managed by thePlatform's MPX video publishing system. Tasks handled by MPX include workflow management of ingested video, metadata management, customer management, and rights enforcement. MPX will automate video publishing across devices and video players. Viaplay is using MPX to manage streaming to Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Finland.
“thePlatform has an exceptional track record of managing large-scale online TV services around the globe,” says Niclas Ekdahl, CEO of Viaplay. “MPX enables us to centralize our video publishing efforts across all our territories and let our subscribers watch their favorite movies, sports and TV shows on their device of choice when convenient to them.”
thePlatform notes that it has geographically redundant data centers in Europe and North America.
"As part of our expanding commitment to Europe, we continue to increase our investment in regional infrastructure and our local service organization to enable timely and secure video publishing with enterprise-grade reliability,” says Ian Blaine, CEO of thePlatform.
In October, 2012, Viaplay announced it was using Envivio Muse Live software-based encoders to stream live channels to its set-top boxes.
