Magnus Svensson: Where are you standing when it comes to CDN? Are you using a multi-CDN solution?
Vinay Gupta: From our point of view, I think it's important to understand there are two big things that I could talk about in this space. One thing is, how do we do CDN selection? That's a layer that we have to deal with. A lot of that is dictated by our obligations, et cetera, with studios that are forwarding us their content, which is making us think a lot about that kind of CDN partner that we are working with, where do they stand in terms of their policies or their geo-protection techniques and a lot of those things. So that's one trend.
The other thing clearly is, is around multi-CDN. More and more, we are realising that putting all our eggs in one basket is not the wisest thing in some ways. At the moment, we're using two CDNs and we actively want to work more and more in that space and just choose the CDN which fits for the purpose. We'll have given a given user at a given point in time. There's a lot of thinking around how automation could achieve the CDN switching at runtime, again, where we are actively working in our player code base, but also all the time encouraging our vendors as well, that you should be thinking about these things, how analytics and player decisioning could be smarter about what CDNs they're choosing to serve the content back to the client.
So there's a lot of interesting stuff happening in that area. Connected to that is a little bit of thinking around scale as well. During the COVID time, we saw unprecedented load on our services. And I guess a lot of people who are heading to this talk, and you might echo that sentiment too. And that has just given us a little bit of a glimpse at what IPN might look like in future, which is another challenge: how we keep our offloading to our origins optimal all the time, and which CDNs are actively working in that space, and innovating in that space. They become a natural choice.
Magnus Svensson: I know it's a complex area, especially when you're talking about a lot of these big events, and the live events coming up, and also at the same time handling the longtail of VOD. It's two different challenges.
