Technicolor Dreams
"Besides StrikeTracker's content management capabilities," says Hayes, "we also use a 15-second interval high-speed bus to return analytics. Media companies really like this kind of thing, as it lets their marketing team make real-time decisions and try different models quickly for viral content or live events.""We also didn't want a CDN that was competing with us," added Dougall. "We have had instances when a customer of ours, with high-end / high-value content, is being pursued by another large CDN that we might have considered working with."Dougall - and Highwinds' Hays - both acknowledge that competition may eventually happen, but according to Dougall, a smaller CDN with a proven track record makes the best partner for Technicolor at the moment."Thomson, one of the biggest media services conglomerates in the world, has a number of marquee customers," says Hayes. "After they checked out our performance, they looked to see if we would be competing with them on every deal. We don't want to get in their business, and as long as they're making relatively large committment, we're able to give them a good price."
Dougall alluded to the fact that growth will be a continual process in to next year.
"We've had lots of demand in Latin America, and we're currently reviewing our plan there," says Dougall. "In Asia, there's so much piracy that we're struggling to find a good business model, so we haven't officially deployed in that market. We'll probably address that market in 2009 but this year is all about the U.S. and Europe."
