TDF Group Acquires Qbrick
Paris, France-based TDF Group, Europe's largest operator of TV broadcast networks, has purchased Qbrick, a Scandinavian company that specializes in media and online video solutions. Qbrick will now become part of TDF's Media Service division, helping European companies and broadcasters adapt their TV and video businesses.
Qbrick is known for providing cloud-based video management solutions for multi-screen delivery. TDF will gain access to Qbrick's content delivery network and online video platform technologies.
Qbrick was started in 1999. Prior to this, it was owned its founders, employees, and a few external investors.
While the announcement was released today, it won't be news to those who attended the recent Streaming Media Europe conference in London. Thinking that the news would be made public sooner, Qbrick had ordered signage for its booth displaying the TDF logo. The employees handled the goof with good humor.
"The TDF group will help us grow outside the Nordics," says Peder Matsgård founder of Qbrick. "I have seen the company grow from five employees in 1999 in a small office in Stockholm, to today employing close to a 100 people in five countries. Everyone is very excited about how we can take our leading market position in the Nordics and build a similar position with TDF in continental Europe.
Neither company disclosed the purchase price.
