LoveFilm Gains Miramax Titles for U.K. and German Viewers
In its race to stand out against streaming competitor Netflix, Amazon's LoveFilm has gained an important new partner. LoveFilm has signed a deal with American entertainment company Miramax to bring Miramax titles to the company's subscribers in the U.K. and Germany.
LoveFilm didn't disclose the number of titles included in the deal or the price it paid, but noted that it includes There Will Be Blood and The Aviator, Martin Scorsese's biography of Howard Hughes. Viewers will also get Sin City and Quentin Tarantino's films Kill Bill, Kill Bill 2, and Jackie Brown. The agreement will begin sometime this summer.
"We are thrilled to bring Miramax films to our customers," says Jim Buckle, managing director for LoveFilm. "This exciting deal will enable us to deliver even more high-quality content to our members and reinforce, once again, our leading position as the first choice subscription service when it comes to exceptional range and unbeatable value for money."
Last month, LoveFilm announced a content deal with Twentieth Century Fox. In January, 2012, it announced the renewal of an agreement with iTV and a partnership with BBC to stream popular TV titles.
Despite its high-profile deals, LoveFilm is trailing Netflix in subscribers in the U.K. and Ireland.
