According to a recent study by Cisco, 82% of all web traffic will be video content by 2022 and as a result of these findings, marketers are seeking ways to improve their video visibility by using SEO strategies.
At present, non-automated closed captions and subtitles are found to be amongst the most popular ways of boosting SEO traffic, which is the increased quantity and quality of web traffic to a website through keywords and organic search engine results. Meanwhile, closed captions give text descriptions of what is happening on-screen and dialogue, whilst subtitles simply show what is being said.
Instead of relying on automatically-generated CCs or subtitles which are often inaccurate, a correctly produced transcript can allow Google to browse it for various keywords and relevant terms instead of those solely defined in a video’s title, description, and tags. As a result, SEO can be boosted by up to 16% on Google’s search rankings thanks to improved views and engagement.
Video content SEO rankings can be further improved by adding professionally-transcribed CCs or subtitles to a video, especially if a business has a number of target audiences in different countries. By adding foreign-language subtitles and closed captions to video content, new audiences can be reached and Google rankings can be boosted in that particular language.
One transcription service provider keen on helping businesses reach new markets via foreign-language CCs and subtitles is GoTranscript, a freelancer-driven transcription service that offers translations in over 30 languages.
Since 2018, GoTranscript has introduced a series of improvements to its UX, with the latest coming in the form of a recently improved translation service which is estimated to reduce turnaround time by up to two hours.
“The latest UX improvement we have made is related to how we go about translating our clients’ files,” explained GoTranscript CEO Peter Trebek. “Previously, the client would choose from our pool of translators to translate their transcription. The translated document would then be returned to the transcriber, then it would be sent to the client. With this update, as way of speeding up the process, the client will upload the file directly into the GoTranscript server where the translator will complete transcription and translation in one go and upload it back to the client directly. We anticipate that this could reduce turnaround times by up to two hours.”
If marketing experts are correct, it will be interesting to see what methods other freelancer-driven and automated transcription services take to help businesses improve their SEO via video content by 2022.
