Groovy Gecko Streaming Foxes Live: Wild in the City
Groovy Gecko are providing the solution architecture and 24/7 live streams via satellite from two remote fox dens for Channel 4 and Windfall Films.
London(03 May 2012)
The dens have been rigged with multiple cameras to give unprecedented insight into the activities of foxes and their cubs. The website gives viewers the chance to switch between dens, as well as viewing some of the highlighted videos recorded earlier. Viewers can also post comments on the site, as well as joining the discussion on Twitter. After each live programme there will be an additional video feed with the presenters addressing questions posed via Twitter.
The live stream is being complemented on Channel 4 and Channel 4+1 with programmes presented by Anita Rani and experienced vet, Mark Evans. The programmes feature fox experts and include footage from the live stream. Viewers can also tracking the progress of foxes such as Chico, released back into the wild after treatment by a vet.
Kate Quilton, Multiplatform Commissioner, Documentaries and Specialist Factual, Channel 4 added: “We worked with Groovy Gecko on Hippo: Nature’s Wild Feast and relied on their experience and technical capabilities to deliver a seamless 24/7 stream under brutal environmental conditions. Because of their ability to architect solutions and mitigate cost and risk, they were a natural choice to help with the live streaming element of this exciting project. We are delighted with the result.”
“We are proud to be involved in this pioneering project,” commented Jake Ward, Business Development Manager, Groovy Gecko. “Channel 4 and Windfall Films are developing a unique approach to engaging the audience in an interactive and compelling way across multiple platforms and we expect other broadcasters to embrace this type of programming.”
This project follows the successful Channel 4 production - Hippo: Wild Feast project, which presented a comprehensive illustration of nature’s food chain in action.
The Foxes Live : Wild in the City dencams will be live at http://foxes.channel4.comuntil Wednesday 9th May at 10pm.
