NextUp Online Comedy Platform Announces New Deal With Amazon Channels
London(09 Nov 2017)
NextUp, the stand up comedy focussed online video on demand platform, which launched at the end of 2016, is delighted to announce that it will launch on Amazon Channels, joining 40+ subscription TV channels including Discovery, Eurosport Player and ITV Hub as a subscription service for Amazon Prime members.
Amazon Channels which launched in May of this year allows Prime members to add a wide range of TV channels to their Prime Video viewing, as individual subscriptions, with no need to buy a bundle and anytime cancellation. A NextUp monthly subscription will cost £3.50.
NextUp will add to the Amazon service, offering a stand-up comedy specific channel featuring a wealth of recorded live stand-up content, showcasing many of the best comics working today. It’s a channel for those who love comedy and want to see a wider range of stand up than what is currently available on TV.
Amazon Channels are available via the existing Prime Video app to watch anytime, anywhere through the Amazon Video app on smart TVs, iOs and Android mobile devices, Amazon Fire TV, Fire TV Stick, and Fire tablets and games consoles and through the web at www.amazon.co.uk/channels
Since launching in November 2016, as well as compiling a wealth of carefully curated bought in content, NextUp has filmed 40 original shows, and releases a new special every week. The company has garnered a 5 star average rating in both Android and Apple App stores, and has generated an ever-growing loyal membership of comedy fans.
NextUp was founded by the stand-up loving team behind the YouTube Channel and live comedy night, ComComedy, working with Stuart Snaith of BBC Worldwide and MD of 2Entertain (responsible for all home entertainment investments in The Office, Planet Earth, Doctor Who and Top Gear). In August of this year the company announced its completion of a new investment round, securing an additional £230,000 of capital and bring its valuation to £1, 588,375 up from £750,000. In the same month Nextup also brought multi-sector, multi-fund venture capitalist firm Velocity on board - and Velocity's creative director, Bil Bungay (founder of top advertising agency BMB), took a seat on the NextUp Board.
As a result of their deal with Amazon alongside a recent partnership with Virgin Atlantic, NextUp have now opened their third seed investment round with a view to significant expansion. For more information visit NextUp’s investment page.
NextUp are hugely supportive of comedy acts and the comedy industry, sharing a portion of the company’s revenue with acts on the channel and using initiatives such as their 'Comics' Fund' – a bursary of up to £3000, designed to support performing, writing, educating, touring, promoting, celebrating, supporting, hosting and producing live comedy.
Most recently this bursary was awarded to The Care Home Tour – which involves a troupe of clowns, absurdist comedians, prop comedians, and stand-ups with heightened physicality to entertain those afflicted with dementia. Confirmed acts for the tour include Phil Nichol and Adam Riches. The first gig took place on 9th October 2017.
