TV3 and Riverside TV choose Quicklink for Live TV
Riverside Television facilities on a vision independent production for TV3 Ireland have been successfully using Quicklink’s Merlin Backpack Encoder to film live sequences for the hit TV programme “Neville’s doorstep challenge”.

Riverside Television facilities on a vision independent production for TV3 Ireland have been successfully using Quicklink’s Merlin Backpack Encoder to film live sequences for the hit TV programme “Neville’s doorstep challenge”. The TV show, based around a surprise home makeover to an unsuspecting TV3 viewer was made possible by the Merlin backpack. Not having to rely upon a large satellite van and lots of equipment, the crew at Riverside TV had the element of surprise by turning up at a house Live on air with nothing but the Merlin backpack and 6 x 3G SIM cards. The quality of the broadcast was outstanding with the Merlin achieving 4MB of live transmissions even from remote locations.
Cyril O’Regan, Managing Director of Riverside TV stated “The show was a massive success and everyone is extremely pleased with the performance of the equipment on the 3G network in Ireland. We were able to achieve a consistently high quality live transmission as well as having the real element of surprise. This is a something that has never been done before and the results were brilliant.”
