Profile
V-Nova is committed to unlocking higher quality digital experiences at scale. Its technologies, improve data, video, imaging and point-cloud compression and have been granted international standard status by MPEG, ISO and SMPTE. V-Nova built a portfolio approaching 1,000 international patents, along with the following products:
V-Nova LCEVC, a highly optimized library for encoding and decoding enhanced video streams with MPEG-5 LCEVC.
V-Nova VC-6, a high-performance software library for SMPTE VC-6, a codec for professional production workflows, imaging, gaming and media indexing applications.
V-Nova PresenZ, a photorealistic Six Degrees of Freedom (6DoF) volumetric format.
Product Description
V-Nova LCEVC is the industry’s first highly optimized software library for encoding and decoding enhanced video streams with MPEG-5 Part 2, low-complexity enhancement video coding (LCEVC). LCEVC has been developed by MPEG, following rigorous performance and visual quality tests, with IP from V-Nova. It provides an additional layer of compression efficiency to any existing or future video codec. LCEVC offers higher quality at lower bitrates to any video distribution workflow, whilst reducing processing power and costs.
Business Benefits
- Reduce Churn –Better video quality and increased resolutions at the same bitrates drive up Quality-of-Experience and customer satisfaction, increasing viewing times for improved ad-monetisation and significantly reducing subscriber churn
- Increase Reach – Enables stable video delivery at lower bitrates than ever before (as low as 100kbps) – meaning viewers can be reached over the most limited networks
- Reduce Delivery Costs – Storage and CDN delivery costs can be cut by up to 80%
V-Nova VC-6 is a high-performance AI-powered software library for encoding and decoding SMPTE VC-6 (ST-2117) which is used in professional contribution, remote production and visual recognition indexing workflows in addition to mass-market next-generation video experiences such as VR/AR, and ad-tech applications. SMPTE VC-6 also includes IP contributed by V-Nova.
V-Nova PresenZ, is a Lumiere Award-winning format that combines PresenZ format and V-Nova's point-cloud compression. It is set to revolutionize story telling in VR by offering users cinematic photorealism and six degrees of freedom for real-time navigation in pre-rendered scenes, breaking free from static viewpoints and ensuring full immersiveness. The format also allows for the re-mastering of existing asset libraries using standard production workflows, for which several plug-ins are already available.

MPEG-5 LCEVC
MPEG-5 part 2 LCEVC (Low Complexity Enhancement Video Coding) is the latest standard by MPEG and ISO. Instead of replacing existing codecs or other methods to improve video compression, LCEVC enhances them, reducing both costs and energy consumption of the transcoding process by up to 70%. Remarkably, it also augments compression efficiency by up to 40%. LCEVC specifies an enhancement data layer that, when combined with a base video encoded with a conventional codec, produces an enhanced video stream. LCEVC also enables unique benefits in applications such as single-stream SDR-HDR backward-compatible delivery and low-latency video delivery. LCEVC was designed to guarantee reliable implementation on current and future devices, with sustainable power consumption, by reusing hardware acceleration already available on existing silicon.
